Our target is zero accidents affecting the health and safety of our people and our rolling stock. We want everyone to get home safe every day. <br><br>We will accomplish this by continually improving our health and safety management system to meet with our vision, our values and the expectations of all those affected by what we do. We will ensure that our responsibilities for health and safety are clearly communicated, monitored, and fulfilled and that legal requirements will be regarded as the minimum standard we must achieve.<br><br>Our shared values inform our behaviours toward health, safety and wellbeing: <br><br><strong>Collaborative<\/strong> \u2013 We believe in the power of working together and being one Beacon.<br> <br><strong>Agile<\/strong> \u2013 We believe in the need to tackle challenges without delay. We think big and move fast.<br> <br><strong>Thrive<\/strong> \u2013 We develop people by providing an environment that fosters personal growth and thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our health, safety and wellbeing commitments are to:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Integrate health, safety and wellbeing into our business activities, promoting this culture amongst our employees, suppliers, visitors and other third parties we interact with.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide and maintain a permanently safe, healthy and incident-free work environment for employees.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Commit to providing the financial and physical resources necessary to ensure that a high standard of health, safety and wellbeing is achieved.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Manage health and safety risks in our workplaces and affecting our rolling stock with the highest regard for the health, safety and wellbeing of our staff, suppliers, visitors and the public at large.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proactively investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses and review our performance to achieve continuous improvement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We will empower our staff by providing high quality information, instruction, training and supervision to enable them to work safely and effectively and to ensure they are competent and confident in the work they carry out.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We will actively consult with our employees, customers, suppliers and other third parties that we interact with to promote an open attitude to health and safety issues, encouraging the identification and reporting of hazards to create and maintain a safe working environment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure, as far as is reasonably practical, that our customers, suppliers, contractors and other third parties conduct themselves with due regard for health, safety and wellbeing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Retain competent advice and assistance to ensure that we are aware of relevant changes in legislation and applying &#8216;best practice&#8217;.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Review this policy on at least an annual basis or in response to any significant changes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our Responsibilities for Health, Safety and Wellbeing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overall and final responsibility for health and safety: Adam Cunliffe, Chief Executive Officer. <br><br>Responsibility for ensuring this policy is put into practice: Ross Shepherd, Chief Technical Officer as professional head of safety. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">All employees should:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Co-operate on all health, safety and wellbeing matters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Take reasonable care of their own health and safety.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inform Beacon of any danger to health and safety posed by a work activity under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (MHSWR).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inform Beacon of any shortcomings in the employer\u2019s protection arrangements under the above legislation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our Arrangements for Health, Safety and Wellbeing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Risk assessment <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will complete relevant risk assessments and implement mitigations from those risk assessments to protect health, safety and wellbeing. We will review risk assessments on a periodic basis or when working habits or conditions change. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Compliance<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will ensure that we comply with legal requirements in relation to health, safety and wellbeing. We will also ensure that our suppliers comply with the relevant legal requirements in relation to health, safety, quality and environmental management through our supplier management process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Training &amp; Competence<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will give staff a health and safety induction and provide appropriate training including (but not limited to) working at height, manual handling, display screen equipment, and other role specific training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Equipment<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will ensure that all equipment used in the course of our business is maintained in good condition, serviced to manufacturer\u2019s requirements and is safe to use. The workforce is provided with suitable and sufficient information and training to enable them to use work equipment safely.<br><br>We provide appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), with storage facilities and replacement. We instruct and expect our employees to use any PPE identified as necessary. If an employee does not have the appropriate PPE for a specific task, then the employee should inform us immediately and not perform that task until the PPE is available. Employees are responsible for the day-to-day care of the PPE issued to them, to report damage and to request replacements.<br><br>We will make sure suitable arrangements are in place for employees who require equipment that work remotely. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Consultation<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will formally and informally consult with our staff routinely on health, safety and wellbeing matters as they arise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First Aid<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have taken action to provide suitable first aid arrangements for our employees and visitors whilst at work. We have assessed the reasonable level of first aid provision required for our business and have made the appropriate arrangements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First aid personnel have the responsibility to:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>administer First Aid in accordance with the training they have received.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>record all accidents that are reported to them in the Accident Book.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>re-stock first aid boxes at regular intervals and when necessary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fire Marshalls have the responsibility to carry out emergency evacuation of the workplace in line with their training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Premises<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We manage our premises to provide a safe place of work. We maintain the means of access and egress, ensure good housekeeping and provide suitable wellbeing arrangements that include adequate hot and cold water, drinking water, sanitary conveniences, hand washing facilities, facilities for eating and food preparation and heat, light and ventilation. The workplace is regularly cleaned, maintained, adequately lit and ventilated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Evacuation<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will make sure escape routes are well signed and kept clear at all times.
